Book Arts 101: Springtide

Book Arts 101: Springtide
(Episode 35, Home Edition)
Wednesday March 31

3 PM Eastern Daylight Time

Here in Florida, the yellow tabebuia trees are blooming: it is spring. We are in fact a week and a half past the vernal equinox. In today's broadcast of Book Arts 101, we'll welcome the season with spring-inspired books from the Jaffe Collection. We'll look at Les Fleurs Animee (The Flowers Personified) from France, circa 1867, and we'll explore springtide customs and celebrations, like the Counting of the Omer and Nowruz, the Iranian new year. We'll dabble in some spring cleaning, for that is a ritual of the season, too.

I'm John Cutrone, your host for Book Arts 101, and I may even read you an Easter story: perhaps the kind with bunnies in jackets and brass buttons.

Book Arts 101 is our live ramble in book arts, craft & design, and various other things, hosted by me, John Cutrone, Director of FAU Libraries' Jaffe Center for Book Arts. Watch via Zoom Webinar or via the Facebook Live simulcast, with video posted later on JCBA's Vimeo channel (vimeo.com/jaffecenter).
