DESCRIPTION:Please join the Center for Connected Autonomy and Artificial In
telligence (CA-AI) in welcoming Kumar Vijay Mishra\, Ph.D.\, to give a gue
st lecture at Florida Atlantic!\n\n \n\nTitle: ISAC in the Modern Battlefi
 eld: Distributed\, Opportunistic\, and Cognitive Sensing\n\n \n\nAbstract:
The modern battlefield is becoming increasingly connected\, contested\, a
nd data-driven\, with sensing and communications performed by heterogeneou
s platforms operating under severe constraints on spectrum\, hardware\, an
d available information. This emerging paradigm presents fundamental chall
enges and exciting opportunities for signal processing and integrated sens
ing and communications (ISAC). Future ISAC is not merely about putting rad
ar and communications on the same platform. It is about turning every avai
lable signal\, platform\, and interaction into an opportunity for sensing
and cognition. In this context\, this talk explores representative advance
s across three complementary ISAC paradigms: coexistence\, co-design\, and
opportunistic sensing. In the coexistence setting\, we present a dual-bli
nd deconvolution framework for overlaid radar-communications systems\, whe
re neither the transmitted signals nor the propagation channels are known.
In co-design ISAC\, we examine exploiting orbital angular momentum for ad
ditional degrees of freedom to jointly support sensing and communications.
We then turn to opportunistic sensing\, where communication infrastructur
e from satellites and 5G base stations is repurposed for sensing precipita
tion without dedicated radar hardware. We end with a more cognitive perspe
ctive through inverse stochastic filtering\, where the objective moves bey
ond estimating physical parameters toward inferring latent processes and u
nderlying causes from their observable consequences. Together\, these exam
ples point toward a broader vision of ISAC for the modern battlefield and
 beyond.
