Reports of fraud and scams targeting older adults have raised concerns about how aging impacts decision making involving the trustworthiness of social partners, as well as news and social media. My talk will provide an overview of the factors that may drive age-related changes to decision making involving social partners and social communication. These key factors include changes to learning and memory, social cognition, and emotions. I will end by describing how my lab is teaming up with others across Florida to reduce misinformation and exploitation among older adults at risk for Alzheimer’s Disease.
