About this Event
Florida Atlantic University presents the 2026 Alan B. and Charna Larkin Symposium on the American Presidency featuring “Capturing the American Presidency,” a special presentation by Doug Mills, the Pulitzer Prize-winning senior photographer for “The New York Times.”
For more than four decades, Mills has chronicled presidents and presidential campaigns, beginning his career with United Press International and The Associated Press before joining “The New York Times” Washington Bureau in 2002. He recently earned his third Pulitzer Prize for his photographic coverage of the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. His first Pulitzer was in 1993 with the Associated Press for team coverage of the Clinton/Gore campaign and he won a second Pulitzer for the A.P.’s team investigative coverage of the Monica Lewinsky affair.
Mills was awarded 2021 Photographer of the Year in the White House News Photographers Association, along with numerous awards since joining the organization in 1985. Mills won The White House Correspondents’ Association Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage by Visual Journalists in 2020, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Following the symposium, attendees are invited to view “America at 250: We Hold These Truths: We Walk These Grounds,” an exhibition featuring work by Doug Mills, on view in the Schmidt Gallery from January 22 to March 29, 2026.
