It's a Wrap: Traditional Hair Wrapping

IT’S A WRAP! The Art of Traditional Hair Wrapping
Instructors Kianga Jinaki & Ayize Hanif

Sunday October 13, 2019
1 to 3 PM
JCBA Bindery, FAU Library

Join fiber artist Kianga Jinaki and dancer/artist Ayize Hanif for a fascinating afternoon that begins with an overview of the history of head wraps. Next, Kianga and Ayize will demonstrate how to wrap using various lengths of fabric (half yard, one yard, two yards). You’ll receive your own half yard of beautiful printed Ankara fabric from Africa, instruction, and time to practice. Additional Ankara fabric will be available for purchase, too. This workshop is all about bridge-building, inclusivity, and understanding… and everyone looks beautiful with wrapped hair!

TUITION & REGISTRATION                                                                 $25 general public and members of the FAU community / $20 FAU students
Advance registration is required for all JCBA workshops. To register, email JCBA Director John Cutrone at jcutrone@fau.edu. Sending your email will begin the registration process. Class Limit: 12.

One seat in this workshop is available to an FAU student for just the cost of materials ($15) thanks to funds raised in memory of Dorothy Hamilton, who loved JCBA’s monthly Real Mail Fridays letter writing socials. To be considered for this seat, you must be a current FAU student and send an email to jcutrone@fau.edu explaining what it would mean to you to have the opportunity to take this workshop. Applications for this opportunity will be accepted through October 1, 2019.
