Description:

Starting a private practice is an exciting endeavor. When beginning this journey, there are often many questions about where to start. This workshop will focus on the key beginning components of establishing your own psychotherapy practice. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the legal, ethical, regulatory, and business components involved with starting a private practice. From registration and licensing to networking and marketing, participants will leave this session with a blueprint to move them further in the process of starting their own practice.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognize the ethical, legal, and regulatory issues involved in starting a private psychotherapy practice, including documentation, licensing requirements, and telehealth guidelines
• Understand the business components of starting a private psychotherapy practice including marketing, networking, billing, insurance panels, and overall practice administration
• Create an action plan and identify tangible next steps to starting a private psychotherapy practice

About the Presenter:

David Landsman-Wohlsifer, PhD, MHA, LCSW is the owner of a well-established private practice, the Boca Raton Center for Psychotherapy, and serves as a Clinical Instructor for the FAU Sandler School of Social Work. He has worked in the field as an educator, administrator/practice owner, clinician, and clinical supervisor for nearly 30 years. He earned his MSW at the University of Pennsylvania, his Master’s of Healthcare Administration (MHA) from St. Joseph’s University, and his PhD in Human Sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco.

His areas of clinical practice include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, couples/family therapy, substance use disorders, and sex therapy. He has published in the areas of family and couples therapy as well as sex therapy and multiculturally competent practice. In addition, he frequently provides business consultation services to clinicians starting and maintaining their private practices.
