Apple Printing demo: 4 PM in the Bindery

While we patiently wait for our first cold front of the season to wend its way south to our subtropical peninsula, the rest of the country is basking in autumn, reveling in golden foliage, ripening pumpkins, and bushels of apples. And while we can’t rush in the cooler weather, at our next Real Mail Fridays letter writing social we'll at least bring in the bushels of apples! We’ll have treats made from apples along with a good old fashioned apple sale to help raise money for the center, and we’ll have a mini Makers Marketplace, too, with some of our favorite local vendors selling some autumnal things like apple spice soaps and Halloween cards and mulling spices and Dia de Muertos calaveras.

We’ll also have our usual mix of good music, good company, note cards, papers and pens, art supplies, and postage stamps, too, so you can write your friends near and far to wish them good tidings this autumnal season. And at 4 PM, we will have a demonstration of a low tech printing technique using apples!

All you need to bring is a festive spirit, your address book, a $10 donation, and don’t forget a little extra cash for shopping (most of our vendors accept credit cards, as does JCBA). Come when you can and leave when you must… we’ll be here writing letters and having fun from 2 to 6 PM, when the library closes.

And do take note: We’ve had to move our Real Mail Fridays letter writing social for November to THURSDAY NOVEMBER 1. It will be the Real Mail Fridays Dia de Muertos Social, and it will be so much fun… but it won’t be on the First Friday of November; it’ll be on the First THURSDAY of November. Just for that month. Come December it’s back to normal scheduling… and certainly by then lots of cooler weather, too!

DIRECTIONS
The Jaffe Center for Book Arts is located on the third floor east of Florida Atlantic University's Wimberly Library. From I-95 or the Florida Turnpike, exit Glades Road, east. The FAU campus is located just east of I-95. If you enter the campus at FAU's main entrance (the one furthest west on Glades Road... and the first one you get to approaching from I-95 or the turnpike), you will enter on West University Drive. Continue straight on West University Drive to the traffic light at its intersection with Volusia Street. Turn right onto Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.

The brand new I-95 interchange for Florida Atlantic University (Exit 48A) takes you directly from the interstate to FAU. Once you pass the traffic light at Spanish River Boulevard, you are on the FAU campus on FAU Boulevard. Continue to the traffic signal at the intersection of FAU Boulevard and University Drive (FAU Stadium will be on your right). Turn right onto University Drive. Turn left at the traffic signal at Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.

PARKING
Visitor Parking is available at the metered spaces in the library parking lot; there are “metered parking” signs posted at the head of these parking spaces. The meter system accepts payment with cash or credit card at the rate of $2 per hour. You may also purchase one day parking permit for $5 online directly. Easy!

Start here: <http://www.fau.edu/parking/permits.php>. Then click on “Visitor, Guest & Volunteer Parking / Permits” … you’ll find it with a yellow icon just below Student Permits and Faculty/Staff Permits. As far as the library goes, these permits are valid anywhere throughout our nearby parking areas (Library Lot, Parking Garage, and parallel parking on Volusia Street) but they are not valid at metered spaces.
