Fall Akua Monoprint Demo: 3 PM in the Bindery

November’s edition of Real Mail Fridays is happening on THURSDAY! Friday is Day of the Dead––Dia de Muertos––and we’re going to be at the Florida Day of the Dead festival in Fort Lauderdale… but rather than cancel Real Mail Fridays we decided to hold it a day early and have our own little Dia de Muertos celebration here, too. The usual letter writing and good company, just a day early, and paired this month with all we love about this very special holiday. Our annual communal Day of the Dead ofrenda will be on display, too… so feel free to bring something to display on it––something that honors your loved ones.

Keep in mind Dia de Muertos is not Halloween. Halloween ushers in these annual Days of the Dead, of course, but Dia de Muertos is more about love and remembrance… and festivity, for sure! It’s a beautiful tradition from Mexico for keeping the channels open, and that is a wonderful thing. Come join us. There’ll be a mini Makers Marketplace, too!

All you need to bring is a festive spirit, your address book, a $10 donation, and don’t forget a little extra cash for shopping (most of our vendors accept credit cards, as does JCBA). Come when you can and leave when you must… we’ll be here writing letters and having fun from 2 to 6 PM, when we’ll say good night and begin getting ready for the big Day of the Dead festivities happening in Downtown Fort Lauderdale on Friday and in Downtown Lake Worth on Saturday. Come December it’s back to normal scheduling with Real Mail Friday falling on the First Friday of December (Friday December 7).

DIRECTIONS
The Jaffe Center for Book Arts is located on the third floor east of Florida Atlantic University's Wimberly Library. From I-95 or the Florida Turnpike, exit Glades Road, east. The FAU campus is located just east of I-95. If you enter the campus at FAU's main entrance (the one furthest west on Glades Road... and the first one you get to approaching from I-95 or the turnpike), you will enter on West University Drive. Continue straight on West University Drive to the traffic light at its intersection with Volusia Street. Turn right onto Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.

The brand new I-95 interchange for Florida Atlantic University (Exit 48A) takes you directly from the interstate to FAU. Once you pass the traffic light at Spanish River Boulevard, you are on the FAU campus on FAU Boulevard. Continue to the traffic signal at the intersection of FAU Boulevard and University Drive (FAU Stadium will be on your right). Turn right onto University Drive. Turn left at the traffic signal at Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.

PARKING
Visitor Parking is available at the metered spaces in the library parking lot; there are “metered parking” signs posted at the head of these parking spaces. The meter system accepts payment with cash or credit card at the rate of $2 per hour. You may also purchase one day parking permit for $5 online directly. Easy!

Start here: <http://www.fau.edu/parking/permits.php>. Then click on “Visitor, Guest & Volunteer Parking / Permits” … you’ll find it with a yellow icon just below Student Permits and Faculty/Staff Permits. As far as the library goes, these permits are valid anywhere throughout our nearby parking areas (Library Lot, Parking Garage, and parallel parking on Volusia Street) but they are not valid at metered spaces.
