2 to 6 PM in JCBA's Book Arts Gallery
at FAU’s Wimberly Library 3rd Floor East
$10 donation is suggested (but not required)
As we inch closer to Election Day in November, it’s time for some good old fashioned activism! To that patriotic end, we are devoting September’s Real Mail Fridays to a community activist project: making handmade postcards to send to friends and relatives (or whoever you wish), all designed to encourage them to vote in the Midterms. We’ll have plenty of blank postcards, we’ll have art supplies and pens, and we’ll have some type inked up in the press… all so you can print, draw, paint––anything you want to do to decorate your cards––and send off some super memorable reminders to folks. We don’t care which candidates you’re supporting; we just want you here educating, organizing, encouraging people to vote.
Even if you just send out one postcard for this purpose, we’ll be happy. You can spend the rest of your time writing letters as usual, or you can spend the whole time this Real Mail Friday effecting change. And so please bring your festive yet patriotic spirit, your address book, a suggested $10 donation, and a little willingness to educate and organize. Come when you can and leave when you must… we’ll be here writing letters and postcards and kicking up a grand old party from 2 to 6 PM, when the library closes.
The Jaffe Center for Book Arts is located on the third floor east of Florida Atlantic University's Wimberly Library. From I-95 or the Florida Turnpike, exit Glades Road, east. The FAU campus is located just east of I-95. If you enter the campus at FAU's main entrance (the one furthest west on Glades Road... and the first one you get to approaching from I-95 or the turnpike), you will enter on West University Drive. Continue straight on West University Drive to the traffic light at its intersection with Volusia Street. Turn right onto Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.
The brand new I-95 interchange for Florida Atlantic University (Exit 48A) takes you directly from the interstate to FAU. Once you pass the traffic light at Spanish River Boulevard, you are on the FAU campus on FAU Boulevard. Continue to the traffic signal at the intersection of FAU Boulevard and University Drive (FAU Stadium will be on your right). Turn right onto University Drive. Turn left at the traffic signal at Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.
Visitor Parking is available at the metered spaces in the library parking lot; there are “metered parking” signs posted at the head of these parking spaces. The meter system accepts payment with cash or credit card at the rate of $2 per hour. You may also purchase one day parking permit for $5 online directly. Easy!
Start here: <http://www.fau.edu/parking/permits.php>. Then click on “Visitor, Guest & Volunteer Parking / Permits” … you’ll find it with a yellow icon just below Student Permits and Faculty/Staff Permits. As far as the library goes, these permits are valid anywhere throughout our nearby parking areas (Library Lot, Parking Garage, and parallel parking on Volusia Street) but they are not valid at metered spaces.
