Noon to 6 PM in JCBA's Book Arts Gallery
Suggested Donation: $10 donation or more
Bring your own stamps for card mailing!
Here come the holidays and it’s almost time to get those holiday cards in the mail! Come and join us for a festive social to get the task started (or even tackled). In this holiday variation of our ever popular Real Mail Fridays Letter Writing Socials, we are opening our gallery doors for you and we’re providing the festive music, cookies, coffee and tea, and good friends, too. You bring your postage stamps and your address book and your Christmas cards, your Hanukkah cards, your New Year cards––whatever holiday cards you send. There’ll be lots of papers and pens and art supplies on hand to help make your cards even more festive. Bring also your donation to the Jaffe Center of $10 or more (we appreciate any support you can provide, and we welcome you even if you can’t give $10).
We’ll also have a few of your favorite Makers Marketplace vendors here to help your holiday shopping along. Come when you can and leave when you must, and expect a delightful afternoon… the kind where you’re dreaming of a white Christmas with every Christmas card you write. And don’t forget: just like being in a snowy forest, it can get pretty cold in here over the course of a few hours; wise holiday card writers will be dressed in layers for the Card Writing Social. Come when you can and leave when you must… we’ll be here writing card and letters and enjoying holiday cheer all afternoon, ’til the library closes.
EXPANDED HOURS! To help you get all those cards written, we’re starting this Real Mail Fridays event at noon, rather than 2, and continuing all the way until the library closes at 6. And for those of you writing Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year cards, don’t forget to bring your own stamps for this Real Mail Friday! (We’ll have some stamps on hand for those of your writing regular letters, but we won’t have enough stamps to cover everyone’s card list. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!)
NEW SECURITY MEASURES
On August 15, 2019, FAU Libraries initiated a new policy for improved building security. Everyone entering and leaving FAU’s Wimberly Library must be swiped in and out, using their FAU Owl Card. For visitors, once you’re inside the lobby of the building, wave at the folks at the front desk and let them know you are here for the Jaffe Center and they will grant you access.
The Jaffe Center for Book Arts is located on the third floor east of Florida Atlantic University's Wimberly Library. From I-95 or the Florida Turnpike, exit Glades Road, east. The FAU campus is located just east of I-95. If you enter the campus at FAU's main entrance (the one furthest west on Glades Road... and the first one you get to approaching from I-95 or the turnpike), you will enter on West University Drive. Continue straight on West University Drive to the traffic light at its intersection with Volusia Street. Turn right onto Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.
The I-95 interchange for Florida Atlantic University (Exit 48A) takes you directly from the interstate to FAU. Once you pass the traffic light at Spanish River Boulevard, you are on the FAU campus on FAU Boulevard. Continue to the traffic signal at the intersection of FAU Boulevard and University Drive (FAU Stadium will be on your right). Turn right onto University Drive. Turn left at the traffic signal at Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.
Visitor Parking is available at the metered spaces in the library parking lot; there are “metered parking” signs posted at the head of these parking spaces. The meter system accepts payment with cash or credit card at the rate of $2 per hour. You may also purchase one day parking permit for $5 online directly. Easy!
Start here: <http://www.fau.edu/parking/permits.php>. Then click on “Visitor, Guest & Volunteer Parking / Permits” … you’ll find it with a yellow icon just below Student Permits and Faculty/Staff Permits. As far as the library goes, these permits are valid anywhere throughout our nearby parking areas (Library Lot, Parking Garage, and parallel parking on Volusia Street) but they are not valid at metered spaces.
