Description:
This course exposes participants to leadership and management theories and evidence-based models to enhance social work practice in mental health settings. Sources of leadership as well as evidence-based management practices to effectively respond to organizational challenges and opportunities will be explored.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn to:
1. Create motivated work environments.
2. Develop strategies to overcome barriers in order to achieve results.
3. Gain strategies for starting any group interaction and maintaining civility.
4. Assess their leadership skills and develop their personal strategy for growth.
5. Apply the leadership skills and knowledge they have learned.
About the Presenter:
Urmala Roopnarinesingh, MSHSA, ABD currently serves as Adjunct Faculty for Health Administration at Florida Atlantic University. In addition, she actively consults with various healthcare organizations locally and nationally. Previously, she served as Faculty Development Chair for the eastern United States for the University of Phoenix, with approximately 300 faculty members in her jurisdiction. In this role she was responsible for supervising faculty, faculty development, student engagement and numerous other activities related to the delivery of quality education. Prior to accepting this position, she instructed Health Administration courses for Keiser University.
Ms. Roopnarinesingh served as Assistant Dean for Operations/Compliance Officer, for a school of podiatric medicine. Her responsibilities include financial management of the medical school, management of the faculty practice plan and compliance reporting directly to the university compliance committee and Board of Trustees. Her previous positions at the university included Director of Continuing Medical Education, for the School of Podiatric Medicine, and Director of Marketing, School of Nursing. Her previous industry expertise included 10 years as brand manager for a major pharmaceutical distribution corporation in the Caribbean.
Ms. Roopnarinesingh is currently ABD in Educational Leadership from Barry University, holds MS in Health Services Administration from Barry University and B.A. in Sociology and English Literature from the University of the West Indies. In addition, she is actively involved in numerous professional associations. She will be defending her dissertation in April 2019.

Participants must be present for the entire training to receive CEUs. Partial CEU credit will not be given.
Refunds minus a $30 administrative fee allowed for cancellations up to 14 days prior to workshop. No refunds after 14 days prior to workshop. Refunds or transfers to other course dates may be permitted in cases of documented personal or immediate family medical emergency, when the same course is being offered on multiple dates, at the discretion of the Professional Development Coordinator. Registrations may not be transferred to another individual. Printed course materials will only be provided to those who attend the course.
