University Symphony Orchestra

Featuring masterworks from Japan, Russia, and the USA, including three beautiful modern compositions: Rhapsody for Orchestra by Yuzo Toyama; Music for Symphony Orchestra by Yasushi Akutagawa; and Fantasy on Japanese Woodprints by Alan Hovhaness, featuring FAU’s Matthew Nichols as marimba soloist.  Also included are Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Suite from the 1954 film On The Waterfront and Alexander Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances from the opera Prince Igor. Conducted by Laura Joella.

We enjoyed the enthusiasm and commitment of every musician. When the entire orchestra play together it was thrilling. Some of the horn solos needed more work. The Japanese early theme music was wonderful. Best wishes for future orchestral performances. We will reprise our attendance
